Scarf and Barf

Ok - first I'll tell you about the scarf.  I'm in the process of blocking a triangle shaped scarf that I made using two skeins of Noro Silk Garden Lite.  Love me some Noro!  Anyway, I used a pattern that I found on Knitting Pattern Central - a standard website for anyone who loves to knit or crochet.  http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/.

And here is the pattern itself.

One tip I can give you is this, if you're using a worsted or sport weight yarn like I did, you cannot stop when the pattern tells you to stop.  You will end up with a scarf big enough for your cat maybe, but not for you.  Just keep knitting the pattern until you get the length you need from tip to tip.  The crochet bind off is really cute too.  Mine was still a little smaller than I wanted, so I'm going to add tassels to the corners after the blocking is done.  I will post a picture of the finished product soon.

NOW - on to the "barf" part of my post.  Rick Santorum.  Need I say more?  This guy, along with the rest of the moronic evangelical right are screaming day and night about  how Obama is trampling on their religious freedom.  REALLY???  In the meantime,  old Ricky Frothy Santorum says that constitutional law is not good enough.  He tells us that if we elect him president, he will do what it takes to implement "GOD'S LAW".  Yes, that's right, he wants to declare that the United States of America is a Christian Nation.  Never mind the First Amendment.  Never mind the millions of American citizens who are NOT christians.  You see, Sharia Law is bad.  Bad, bad, bad Islamic theocratic nations want to impose their religion on their people.  And yet, imposing "GOD'S LAW" on the American people would be a good thing.  Right?

What's worse is that in the states of Virginia, Texas and Louisiana, they are trying their best to pass "personhood" laws.  This is where an embryo has all the rights and status of a "person", or someone who has already been born.  The purpose of these laws is to ban abortion outright.  But if that won't work, they're developing another means of supressing abortion.  Now they want to force a woman who opts to have an abortion to be forcibly subjected to a transvaginal ultrasound.  Yes, they want you to be forcibly raped via ultrasound in order for you to obtain an abortion which is a legal medical procedure in this country.  Nice huh?

Last Monday (President's Day), I had the day off so I was sitting in front of the TV knitting and listening to MSNBC (I know, I know...the bastion of left wing rhetoric), and I listened to recap after recap of the nonsense that Santorum spewed over the weekend.  I can't remember who it was, but I think it was Santorum's campaign manager who pissed me off the most.  This is the guy who said "back in my day, women practiced birth control by keeping an aspirin between their legs", or some such idiocy.  Anyway, I believe it was this sexist asshat who said that these transvaginal ultrasound laws were not an invasion of a woman's privacy.  He said they were not a "war on women".  No, he said that these laws were necessary to "help" women understand the ramifications of the consequences of abortion.  Yes ladies, because none of us have ever seen an ultrasound of a fetus before.  Nope, we've never had a friend or a sister show us their ultrasound.  And besides, we are such emotional creatures that surely if we see an ultrasound of our own "baby", that we will naturally not want to get an abortion.  These men merely want to point out to us what we don't have the cognitive ability to discern on our own.

BARF!!!

I've never detested christians before, but these evangelicals make me hate religion.  Also, I've never detested men before, but these men make me hate.  Step back.  Breathe.  Good.  I love my christian friends and family and my male friends and family too.  Can you, if you fit into this category, please stand up against these bigots?  We cannot allow these people to errode our constitution and the freedoms that we have all worked so hard for.  We have a lot to do people.  Let's get to it.
